Each table runner begins with washing and cutting fabric. The next steps include tannin and mordant baths and then dyeing the fabric a base color. For the first layer of pattern, I use plant dyes, incorporating a clamp-resist (shibori) technique. Then, after the fabric dries, I hand block print or hand stitch to add another layer of surface design. After setting the printed fabric, each piece is hemmed either by hand or machine.
