osage olive silk scarf

osage olive silk scarf

$175.00

Luxurious eri silk has a bit of a sheen. The olive green color is both elegant and rich.

To create this scarf I began with washing, mordanting and dying the fabric a base color. Next, for the first layer of pattern, I dyed the silk with osage, incorporating a clamp-resist (shibori) technique. After the fabric was dry, I used hand block printing to add another layer of surface design. Then, after drying the silk for three or four days, I set, machine hemmed and pressed to finish.

fabric: eri silk

The Eri silk I use is a type of wild silk found in India. The Eri silkworms eat Castor bean leaves and the cocoons are gathered after the moth emerges, which makes this Eri silk a true Ahimsa silk. Woven and processed in small mills, this type of silk is luxurious, soft, and durable.
